The marie curie flatpack, pop-up shop has been designed to stimulate run down and derelict commercial sites with a fresh approach to charity shops and the marie curie brand. With the recession forcing many retailers to close, shop units in prime locations throughout the city are left empty and neglected, thus becoming prime locations susceptible to graffiti and vandalism.
The pop-up shop is intended to occupy these spaces for a short period of time, challenging the associations of vandalism and crime by creating a positive, cultural impact to the surrounding community.
The pop-up structure consists of 3 standard sheets of osb, and 1 of ply (1200x2400x18mm). Utilizing inexpensive materials with graffiti styled anatomical graphics, the 4 sheets provide a visually engaging + informative platform for the charity to engage a prominent youth culture.
The shop unit brings social benefits to the surrounding community by educating a younger generation to be more aware of the most common symptoms and warning signs, as well as the care + support available for patients and their families dealing with cancer.
